In terms of forensic medicine, the research carried out is service-oriented and case-related. Specialist areas of research include forensic imaging, firearms, time of death estimation and entomology. The research groups involved in forensic imaging and firearms research are headed by Professor Christian Jackowski and PD Dr. Christian Schyma – two experts with an international reputation. An SNSF project concerned with the use of firearms at close range is currently under way at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Bern. In addition to the main areas of research, selections of case histories are also published on a regular basis.
